The Value of Taveo

In my previous post I outlined my frustrations around URL analytics/click tracking and explained why I started Taveo. Today I’d like to talk about why you should be using Taveo and the value it can add to your site. Let me outline 3 reasons why you need Taveo.

1. Standard Analytic tools are too coarse

Google Analytics and other similar tools capture what I call “site-wide” statistics. If you want to know how many people from Country X visited your site or what time of day is most popular, they do a superb job showing you that. Taveo operates on a much finer level, what I like to refer to as page-based statistics. Pages are basically portions of your site that you care about. For example, for bloggers pages are posts. For online businesses, pages are products. Google Analytics can do page-based stats, but Taveo does it better. Let me explain why.

Most analytics focus on total volume of page-views, their times, dates, etc. For example, it can answer the question “How many people read my newest blog post today?”. This approach focuses on what users do once they are on your site. Most of these packages have poor information on how visitors got there. I’m willing to bet right now that a large percentage of your Google Analytics traffic is Direct / (none) (I’ll wait while you login and go look). For my sites, that is the single largest percentage. This means Google has no idea how those users got to your site!

Taveo is specifically built to capture information about this population. It enables you to craft multiple incoming links for each page, allowing you to track where visitors are coming from. Before Taveo, you would setup a page (ex. http://www.myproduct.com/new_product.html) and utilize that URL everywhere and use Google Analytics to see what happens. When you Tweet, post to Facebook, advertise etc. the destination is always the same. With Taveo, you setup separate URL’s every time you publish your page. For example, after creating your new product you would create three new Taveo links, then utilize one for Twitter, one for Facebook and one for advertising. You now have detailed statistics about traffic sources, because you know which link users clicked!

2. You’re missing 15% of your users

According to research done in 2012 by ClarityRay, 10% of Web users have Ad-Blocking technology enabled in their browser. Other studies found 15% or more. This figure was expected to grow and is assuredly higher today. If users are running ad-blocking technology, you are not going to capture anything using most analytic platforms1. They won’t even show up as a pageview/unique in Google Analytics!

The good news is Taveo is 100% ad-blocker and no-script proof. We use other, more reliable methods to capture our information. Bottom line, we can help you capture information on this section of your audience.

3. Click Auditing

Have you ever audited your advertising platform? When they say they are delivering X page-views or clicks per month, do you believe them? Now, I’m not saying web advertisers are out there defrauding everyone, but wouldn’t it be nice to know these exact numbers yourself? With Taveo, this is simple and easy to do. In addition to capturing the number of clicks, you will get detailed statistics. Did your advertiser promise that all traffic would come from a specific geographic region? Well, use Taveo and find out! Want to know how many of your advertising clicks are coming from mobile devices? Again, add Taveo and watch the results.

Personally, I think the value of taveo is easy to see.

[1] Most platforms capture their data by adding a small piece of Javascript to your page. Ad-blockers strip this part of your site out before loading the page.
